Interview: Juliet Ehimuan on Africa's next wave of innovation

Juliet Ehimuan, founder and CEO of Beyond Limits Africa and ex-MD of Google West Africa, sat down with Connecting Africa Editor Paula Gilbert at the NOVACOM Digital Transformation Strategy Summit in Franschhoek, South Africa, to talk about the next wave of innovation in Africa and the continent's digital future.

She spoke about Africa's booming startup ecosystem and how startups are using technology like artificial intelligence to solve local problems.

She shared her views on the major challenges to growing innovative technologies, including a lack of infrastructure, skills and access to funding.

She stressed the importance of incubators and accelerators in the region and the need for more mentorship programs and investment into local startups.

Ehimuan spoke about her time working at Google and how the search giant prioritized projects around access to the Internet, local content creation and digital skills development for Africans.

She also shared her goals for new project Beyond Limits Africa which aims to help enable digital transformation and supports tech entrepreneurs through training, mentorship and funding to build the next generation of African unicorns.

We also discussed the success of Africa's fintech industry, expectations for growth in fintech innovations and funding for fintech startups.
