Orange Eyes 5G Launches in Africa, Middle East
5G in Africa
The Orange 5G piece by Ray Le Maistre is good as usual. The underlying issue it raises is 5G's dependence on the resolution of both more advanced technical issues than 4G and also more basic practical ones, like reducing power and backhaul costs. Another practical issue, assuming higher spectrum is to be used, is where all the related micro and pico sites that are needed will be found? There are not too many utility poles around, even if access to them were available at a reasonable price. Did the Orange speaker indicate what spectrum they were planning to use for 5G, what sites, and/or what backhaul facilities?
