Liquid C2 becomes Africa's first Google Cloud Interconnect provider

Liquid C2, the cloud computing arm of Liquid Intelligent Technologies, has announced that it has become the first Google Cloud Interconnect provider in Africa.

In November 2023, Liquid C2 and Google Cloud signed a strategic partnership at Africa Tech Festival in Cape Town, South Africa, and this new deal promises significantly more capacity for Liquid C2's cloud solutions.

"Cloud Interconnect extends organizations' external networks directly to the Google Cloud network through a private, high-availability, low-latency connection," the company said in a statement.

Liquid C2 said the direct connection's increased speed and higher bandwidth significantly enhances the performance of cloud-based applications and can reduce customers' reliance on the public Internet, while improving security and business performance.

Google Cloud in Africa

In February 2024, Google Cloud launched a new cloud region in Johannesburg, South Africa, its first in Africa, through which companies across the continent can benefit from the hyperscaler's cloud capabilities.

"By partnering with Google Cloud, we can leverage the strengths of both organisations to offer solutions that address the needs of the African market. Direct access to the Google Cloud network will bring about the enhanced security and operating efficiencies that our customers in wholesale, enterprise, and government are seeking," Liquid C2 CEO Oswald Jumira said in a statement.

With the addition of Johannesburg, Google Cloud's network has 40 cloud regions and 121 zones, which deliver Google Cloud services to over 200 countries and territories worldwide. (Source: Google Cloud website)

"This collaboration demonstrates the value of strategic partnerships in enabling a more connected and digitally inclusive continent, as well as our mutual goal of providing access to the technology that drives business growth," added Abdul Rahman Al Thehaiban, managing director for Turkey, Middle East and Africa at Google Cloud.

In November 2023, Google's managing director for Africa, Alex Okosi, spoke to Connecting Africa about plans for the Google Cloud region in South Africa and also Google's strategy for growth in 2024 including areas like AI, cloud and digital skills development.
