ATF 2023: Uber's Marjorie Saint-Lot on women in tech

Uber's Country Manager for Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire and Pakistan, Marjorie Saint-Lot, spoke to Connecting Africa's Associate Editor Matshepo Sehloho at the Africa Tech Festival in Cape Town about her experience navigating a male-dominated industry on the continent.

"As a woman, you have to demonstrate even harder that you have your place at the table, and I think as a black woman it adds another layer of things. It's a tough battle but I think what has helped me is I've been focused," Saint-Lot said.

"There is nothing better, at least for me, than to create a path for others to follow. I'm not the first black woman in my region to be a leader but I'm happy to widen that road and that door for other women to follow," she added.

Saint-Lot also gave advice to women wanting to succeed in the tech industry, discussed mentorship programs she is involved in to uplift African women and spoke about what Uber is doing to become more sustainable.
