Fiona Asonga, CEO of the Technology Service Providers of Kenya (TESPOK), sat down with Connecting Africa Editor Paula Gilbert at East Africa Com in Nairobi, Kenya, to talk about digital strategies that telecom operators and service providers are implementing in East Africa.
"Digital economy is no longer just a buzz word – it is what governments need to be planning around and looking out for, it's what the private sector needs to be plugging into and taking advantage of the opportunities that it brings ... and it's what regulators across the board need to pay attention to and skill up their teams on," she said.
She said that ICT is no longer just an economic sector but has become a tool to be used by other economic sectors to go digital.
She also spoke about the challenges facing service providers when it comes to digitization and what needs to be done over the next five years to make digital transformation a reality in East Africa.
