Trainspotter Trainspotter What's Next for Nigeria's Mobile Market?
Re: What about Glo?

Hi Peter

Thank you for the message!

It is not  a case of Glo not being considered -- only that any speculation had not surfaced as our Etisalat Nigeria coverage developed, whereas the other companies had been cited in financial reports I had seen.

So it is simply that I had not come across speculation that Glo could be a potential buyer and certainly nothing to do with ANY cmpany being regarded as more or less competent than any other. AFter all, all of the foreign owners have their challenges in multiple markets, as has been reported on Connecting Africa.

But any interest from Glo would be an interesting prospect and one that I'm sure would be welcomed locally  - there is even the potential for a bidding war!

EVery day the situation seems to develop so definitely one to keep an eye on!

Thanks

Ray

What about Glo?

This article mentions Orange, Vodafone, Airtel...all foreign owned telco's chasing after MTN, also a foreign owned telco, but what about Glo, an indigenous telco? With the ideas already making rounds that if it could acquire Etisalat/9Mobile, it would be in a position to challenge MTN for the number one spot in the Nigerian market! Obviously the article must have a foreign origin! Why does it not occur that this market could quite competently be dominated by a local player, as opposed to being exploited by foreign concerns?
